Are Rocoto products compatible with each other?
Yes, Rocoto products are compatible within their product families. The MD62, MD11, and SL11 are fully compatible with each other and can operate within the same installation. Similarly, the HM11x and MD52x are designed for full mutual compatibility.
Is a line-of-sight required between the units?
No, a direct line-of-sight is not required. Rocoto products operate on the 5GHz & 6GHz band, which allows the signal to penetrate or deflect off common OR objects. A robust link is maintained as long as the units are not fully enclosed in metal.
How many receivers can link to one Rocoto transmitter?
Any Rocoto transmitter can stream to up to four receivers simultaneously (multicast). Multicasting adds no additional latency and causes no degradation in video quality.
How many Rocoto transmitters can work simultaneously in the same room?
Up to 6 transmitters can operate simultaneously in the same operating room without mutual interference.
What is the wireless range of Rocoto products?
All Rocoto products support reliable, high-quality transmission up to 100 m. Within a typical OR environment with standard obstructions, the system is robustly designed to cover all corners of the room.
Is the video link secure?
Yes. The video link is highly secure and purpose-designed for a medical environment:
  • Encryption: Video is encrypted using AES-256.
  • Key Exchange: The encryption key is securely exchanged via RSA during pairing.
  • Air-Gapped: The proprietary link is a closed system. It does not have access to the internet or the hospital's internal network, making it isolated from external threats.

In addition, the video link does not include any personalized patient data.

What is the latency between Rocoto transmitter and receiver?
The latency is ~1 millisecond. This ultra-low latency is achieved through a unique, patented video modem technology invented by Rocoto - it is indistinguishable from a physical cable connection.
What RF spectrum do Rocoto products use?
All Rocoto transmitters and receivers operate on the unlicensed 5GHz spectrum. Products compatible with the Rocoto 2.0 protocol also utilize the 6GHz (UNII5) spectrum. Key advantages of these bands:

Rocoto products use a proprietary wireless communication protocol - not Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This protocol was specifically engineered to deliver high-resolution video with exceptional robustness and ultra-low latency, powered by Rocoto's patented chipsets and algorithms.
How does the system achieve such robustness?
The system's robustness comes from two key technologies:
  • JSCC (Joint Source Channel Coding): Embedded into Rocoto chipsets, this allows the system to use the entire wireless channel capacity with extreme efficiency. As wireless channel capacity changes due to movement or interference, JSCC automatically adapts to ensure the highest possible video quality without adding latency.
